

Gregory (Greg) Gwaltney
Sr. Environmental Scientist and Maritime History Specialist
Gregory is a senior environmental scientist who is retired from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where he served for 26 years, mostly in the offices of wastewater, drinking water, and in various offices working on GIS/mapping. He was also a consultant and worked for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources as a Nutrient Analyst and Enforcement Inspector. Gregory is a seventh-generation Washingtonian as well as a fifth-generation descendant of Black Watermen from the Smithfield, VA area.
He studied mechanical engineering and business at Roger Williams College in Bristol, Rhode Island. He also studied environmental science and urban studies at the University of the District of Columbia (an HBCU) and received his BS degree in Urban Studies.
Gregory is a life-time volunteer for Blacks of the Chesapeake Foundation and now serves as a consultant with them for environmental science and Black maritime history.
